Sickle Cell Disease affects the red blood cells, changing the shape from a round cell to a crescent moon shape that causes damage throughout the body. Sickle cell disease is most known for its symptom of pain which can be very excruciating, causing disruption in school, work and leads to a poor quality of life for many of our patients. Gene therapy is a new and exciting treatment option available for patients with sickle cell disease (SCD). Children’s National is one of the few pediatric hospitals in the country that offers both FDA-approved sickle cell disease gene therapies: CASGEVY™ (exagamglogene autotemcel) and LYFGENIA™ (lovotibeglogene autotemcel). Learn how we are leading the way in gene therapy as a treatment for sickle cell disease. https://lnkd.in/ezZcTE2N
