In this inaugural “Dyslexia Success Stories” podcast, meet Kaylee and her mom, June, as they talk about an early lifetime of struggles for Kaylee, due to Dyslexia, AD/HD, Dyscalculia and other learning challenges up to age 12. However, around age 13, Kaylee and her family chose to seek services from The Morris Center and NOW! Programs® companies. TMC’s professional testing showed Kaylee had an IQ above the 95th percentile and a reading rate in the 13th percentile. Her and her parents and her teachers all agreed that she struggled tremendously with remembering what she read or what she heard, ie her reading comprehension was very impaired and no where near her IQ. Join us for the interesting discussion as we find out more from Kaylee and her mom about what were her struggles up to age 13, what they chose to do about them and how she empowered her reading fluency and comprehension & NOW, ~10 years after she empowered her Dyslexia, reading comprehension and reading fluency, she set her goals on and completed the following accompliahements: 1.     What does it mean when a parent says: “DYSLEXIA, DYSGRAPHIA, DYSCALCULIA have NOTHING to do with our lives anymore.“ (see this parent’s explanation below) “Where are they NOW? I’ll tell you where they aren’t… NO dyslexia groups at school, NO tutoring after school, NOT behind their peers academically, NOT feeling stupid and bad about themselves… I could go on and on. They are thriving! My youngest (now 7, started NOW when 5) was screened by her school for dyslexia as they do all students in certain graders. They happily reported to me “she is not dyslexic “. I silently laughed. I had not shared our The Morris Center evaluations with the school. SO… the short answer to where are we now? DYSLEXIA, DYSGRAPHIA, DYSCALCULIA have NOTHING to do with our lives anymore. I still cry tears of joy and relief. There will never be enough Thank yous.     When someone tells you “Dyslexia is lifelong” or “Dyslexics’ brains are hardwired” or worse “Dyslexia cannot be remediated”, well consider that actual brain scientists may have peer-reviewed science that these folks have not yet read. So, you can choose to find those who know more about #Dyslexia and all #SpecificLearningDisorders and do more to empower individuals with these learning challenges and also have the peer-reviewed, scientific research funded by panels of national experts on Dyslexia and Reading (via NICHD funding) and provide these “life changing” services daily, around the globe to individuals of ALL ages, empowering them with stronger skills in reading, spelling, writing, mathematics and comprehension. For example, see the following and decide, did we remediate this student’s Dyslexia?? DYSLEXIA REMEDIATION CASE STUDY: NOW! Programs® were used at The Morris Center Ponte Vedra Beach or The Morris Centre Trinidad and Tobago or The Morris Center Ocala, FL clinic along with a transdisciplinary team (OT, SLP, Psych, Sped, Rec Therapy…). CASE STUDY request for feedback: I welcome this group’s questions, comments and feedback on this case study of using a neurorehabilitative approach to the evidence-based (ie three 5-year NICHD funded RCTs) and research-based treatments of Neurodevelopmental Disorders at www.TheMorrisCenter.com CASE STUDY: Elementary school student Dx: Dyslexia, Dysgraphia, AD/HD, Developmental Coordination Disorder and Language Disorder. Treatment program: The Morris Center 5 months intensive, transdisciplinary team treatment with OT, SLP, Psych, Sped and three programs from www.NOWprograms.com (one which is NICHD funded, peer-reviewed from 3 five year RCTs) and parent education / support. Graphs below are three bars from 3 timepoints: 1. pre-treatment, 2. immediate post-treatment (~5 months of treatment) and 3. one year post-treatment. Outcomes: Remediated Dyslexia, Developmental Coordination Disorder and Language Disorder (patient no longer meets DSM-5 DX criteria at one year post for these prior diagnoses). Academic in school performance is now mostly A’s with one or two B’s, improved from mostly D’s and a few C’s. Self-esteem markedly improved Affect is positive and optimistic Parents report marked improvment in family life and significant decline in worries and concerns about child’s academic performance or future.
