With Maternal Mental Health Month just a few weeks away, Postpartum Support International is excited to announce the launch of our PSI Maternal Mental Health 2024 Month Campaign: We Are 1 in 5 Social Media Tool Kit, available now at https://lnkd.in/et_Aib4y. We invite you to join the #WeAre1in5 campaign and bring together the voices of PMHD survivors around the world. This year, we will share a diverse selection of stories that tell the struggles, hope, and recovery of those who have been affected by a PMHD. With your help, we hope to bring together PMHD survivor stories from different cities, cultures, religions, and countries across the globe through our social media campaign #WeAre1in5. We want every new mom to know: You are not alone. Although Perinatal Mental Health Disorders (PMHDs) affect an estimated 800,000 new parents each year, the topic of mental health can be a mystery to many. PSI wants to change the story by sharing YOUR story and breaking the silence about PMH Disorders. Browse the media kit to learn about content creation and storytelling campaign opportunities, or fill out our storytelling forum at https://lnkd.in/ege7tfD6 to submit your maternal mental health story. Visit the link in our bio to change the story by sharing YOUR story #WeAre1in5. Don't forget to shop 'We Are 1 in 5' Campaign T-Shirts and Merch. Visit the official PSI MMH Month 2024 today for 25% of your purchase to go directly towards supporting PSI. Link in bio or visit https://lnkd.in/eyT9a733.

“I grew up and was raised in a Hispanic, Catholic Family and played sports most of my life. My entire life I always remember knowing that if I fell, I couldn’t sit there wallow and complain, I needed to rub some dirt on it and get back up and go.” — Mariah Martinez, PPD & PPA Survivor, Hispanic, United States (@mariah.f.martinez) “Perinatal and postpartum disorders do not discriminate. Up to this point when I was 26 years old, I had checked off all but one thing on society’s perfect little to-do list of life.” “My story begins the first time my husband left the hospital room to go get the car—and I don’t know why because I’d always been so confident with other people’s kids when I babysat—I felt so alone, scared, and unsure. Who decided to trust us with this baby? Who signed off that we were going to be good parents?” “But while I didn’t feel a major connection to the baby, I did have constant anxiety that something bad was going to happen to him. I worried that he would stop breathing or that someone would break in and take him. He would roll over and not be able to breathe, or someone would drop him. I would find myself crying for no reason uncontrollably.” This story was shared as part of Postpartum Support International’s Maternal Mental Health Month Campaign. “As a perinatal and maternal mental health therapist and mother myself, I have witnessed and experienced the subtle and overt beliefs our society holds about motherhood and women.” — Kendra Olson, MSW, LICSW, PMH-C, Psychotherapist and Founder of Psychotherapy for Maternal Well-Being, PLLC “Motherhood is a social construct, certainly steeped in patriarchy, sexism, and misogyny. I see the impact of the resulting pressures on mothers, though I also get to see the transformation once a mom releases the “pressure valve” and allows themselves to narrate their own experience of motherhood.” “These myths persist throughout motherhood, and many mothers still struggle with “how to be a good mom” years into motherhood. Spoiler alert: the formula for “how to be a good mom” is based on these myths. Below I’ve detailed the most often-heard myths from mothers in my therapy office, as well as some ways to de-construct each myth.” Read this full blog post by visiting the linktree link in our bio or visiting https://lnkd.in/ejM2pawE.
