15 years ago Amy Baxter MD FAAP FACEP launched Buzzy. After her son's brutal vaccines 2001, as a pediatrician she realized "when he's old enough to drive himself to the doctor, he won't". With NIH R&D funding, she invented and tested an instantly effective, reusable pain reliever. While still practicing, she refused investment, "Gillette model" profits, instead raising awareness of needle phobia in every possible medium: "What if we have a pandemic, and 26% of people don't get vaccinated?" TEDx 2012; TEDMED (2014) on needle fear and healthcare adherence; she published the data (Vaccine 2017 Jul 24;35(33):4213-4219) showing the cause wasn't just pain - a single shot builds resilience - but the relentless same-day boosters between age 4-6 years. Her HHS Testimony on Adult needle fear 2/4/2021 got chuckles from public health experts when she said "26% of adults won't get vaccinated against COVID - it's fear, but they'll rationalize". 28% didn't get vaccinated. She explained in a 2023 TED talk (1.3M views) that it's not pain, it's your brain's perception of safety. (This is why creams backfire when they raise anxiety). Over 100 independent studies support Buzzy: 10x faster and 10x cheaper than pharmaceuticals for IVs, and they make vaccines faster, too: Thompson A J Child Health Care 2024 Mar. She has lectured all over the world and worked with Child Life legends about why pain/fear/control matter equally for better access to health later. Fighting two decades of male-dominated MDs mocking needle pain concern, her mottos "Truth overcomes bias eventually", "Ignaz Semmelweis is my patron saint" and "It'll be fine" have led her team to block pain from over 114 million needle procedures worldwide in over 5000 hospitals and clinics.
