Pediatric Hospitalist
UCSD/Rady Children's Hospital
Dr. Heather Pierce is a pediatric hospitalist at Rady Children's Hospital-San Diego and associate clinical professor of pediatrics at UC San Diego. She serves as the medical director for graduate medical education at Rady Children's Hospital, which provides educational opportunities for over 900 postgraduate trainees each year. She received her undergraduate degree and medical training in a combined degree program at Virginia Commonwealth University. She completed her general pediatric residency and chief residency at the Floating Hospital for Children/Tufts University in Boston and completed a fellowship in pediatric hospital medicine at Rady Children's Hospital/UC San Diego.
Dr. Pierce is currently the associate director of the Innovative Quality Improvement Research in Residency (INQUIRY) Program which provides structured quality improvement education and mentorship to all pediatric trainees. She also serves as co-chair of the family centered rounds steering committee.
Her academic interests include quality improvement and patient safety education, family-centered care and rounding, and clinical pathway development and review with clinical research interests in bronchiolitis, asthma, pneumonia and cellulitis.
