What started as a hospital located in the heart of downtown San Antonio has grown into a network of freestanding pediatric emergency centers along with multispecialty, maternal and pediatric clinics. Patients and families come from all over the U.S. and the world to access care provided by 200 pediatric and maternal experts affiliated with Baylor College of Medicine. CHRISTUS Children’s is a part of CHRISTUS Health, an international non-profit Catholic health system made up of more than 600 centers throughout Texas, Louisiana, New Mexico, Mexico, Chile and Colombia. CHRISTUS Health was founded by the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word who opened the first hospital in San Antonio. We strive each day to honor their legacy and mission to extend the healing ministry of Jesus Christ. In 2012, CHRISTUS Children's became San Antonio's first and only free-standing children's hospital in San Antonio. The hospital was renovated with many bright, beautiful and family-friendly features including a teaching kitchen, Ronald McDonald House inside the hospital, and outdoor gardens. At CHRISTUS Children's, physicians and providers are surrounded by an outstanding team of nurses who are Magnet certified, emergency department nurses who have received the Lantern Award, and Gold Level Beacon Awards for nursing excellence in both pediatric and neonatal intensive care. CHRISTUS Children's was recognized among the city's Top Work Places in 2019 and 2022 by the San Antonio Express-News. CHRISTUS Children’s has plans for growth into new communities, expanding its Baylor faculty and introducing new services. We remain committed to bringing the best and the brightest maternal and pediatric specialists to this community to care for the patients and families we are blessed to serve.
