When Jackson Webb started having trouble walking at age 7, his family began a diagnostic and treatment odyssey. As a Black family, they wondered if their concerns were being heard. They also struggled with lengthy treatments and grief. Jackson's father, Jonathan, will share how clinicians can support patients with chronic conditions and their families through partnership and advocacy.

Since 1986, the AAP Pediatric Research in Office Settings (PROS) network has worked to enhance primary care practice by conducting high-impact, national, collaborative, practice-based research. This session will review over 30 years of practice advances due to the work of PROS.

Crafting the Right Message and Forming Coalitions to Prevent Firearm Injuries

To reduce firearm injuries in children, it is imperative to have effective safe storage messaging, tailor it to the encounter and collaborate with communities to amplify the message. Faculty will discuss how building coalitions with public health, veteran organizations, legislative advocates and retailers can amplify safe storage through legislation, community action, and shared storytelling.

Health Equity in Action
Ala Stanford, MD, FACS, FAAP
Dr. Stanford was operating her pediatric surgery practice in the suburbs of Philadelphia when the pandemic hit.  Recognizing certain communities were devoid of access and resources, she used the infrastructure of her surgical practice to provide direct care to over 100,000 people and more with her reach.  Her efforts saved countless lives.  Dr. Stanford subsequently caught the attention of the White House and was appointed by President Biden to continue to be a catalyst at the federal level.  Dr. Stanford shares her message of what we can all do as educators, pediatricians, specialists, researchers and policy makers to work toward eradicating health disparities, and the power of leading without a title.
