The American Psychiatric Association (APA), representing over 38,000 psychiatric physicians, develops clinical practice guidelines that are free and available for everyone. The 2023 Practice Guideline for the Treatment of Patients With Eating Disorders provides recommendations for psychiatrists, primary care providers, and patients and caregivers in the importance of early and correct diagnosis of eating disorders. A grant from the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation through the Council of Medical Specialty Societies supported the development of tools to support clinicians in learning about eating disorders and in screening and assessing patients at the point of care. Products include a decision support tool available via app or electronic health record, clinician and patient pocket guides available online or in hard copy, and a free CME program that uses vignettes to illustrate the guideline recommendations.
